Katikati- Population
estimated 5,000 is a satellite town on the periphery of
the city of Tauranga with a population of 150,000.
Known as the Mural Town of
New Zealand with its numerous murals depicting the
history of the town. Many tourists venture to Katikati
to see these murals. The area is also recognised for its
Arts & Crafts.
The town is renowned for
its horticulture, farming and major exporting of
Kiwifruit and Avocados. Harvesting of Kiwifruit usually
commences late March. A large contingent of pickers,
packers, sorters and quality control expertise arrive
for the harvesting season.
